Children’s Book of the Year Contest

Do you or a colleague have a great idea for a children's book? If so, don't forget to enter the National Association for Elementary Schools Principals Children's Book of the Year Contest. There are just two weeks left to enter this 2nd annual event that seeks to discover, publish, and launch two aspiring writer's careers. Two winners will be selected–one children's picture book and one children's chapter book.

Last year, the two winners, Mary Jo Amani of Swannanoa, North Carolina, and Frank McMillan of Corpus Christi, Texas received contracts to publish their books. Ms. Amani won for her book, Excuse Me I'm Trying to Read, in the picture book category, and McMillan's book, The Young Healer, was selected from the chapter book category.

Books are chosen via manuscript entries submitted to NAESP. Manuscripts are then reviewed and selected by a committee of editors and educators who judge submissions based on content, originality, and age-appropriateness.

For the contest's second year, NAESP is searching for two new unique book ideas for children. The winning authors' books will be published by Charlesbridge Publishing, a nationally known children's book publisher and endorsed by the NAESP Foundation with the NAESP Foundation Children's Book Award emblem on their books.

This contest is an incredible opportunity for children's authors who are looking to get their start. Educators who have ideas based on their experience in the classroom are encouraged to apply!

Don't forget: The contest deadline is March 1st, 2012.
