Association of American Educators Celebrates Dr. Seuss’s Birthday and Read Across America Week

Mission Viejo, CA – The Association of American Educators (AAE), a national nonunion, professional association serving educators in all fifty states, recognizes the educational contributions of the award-winning writer and illustrator Theodor Seuss Geisel on the anniversary of his birth, March 2, 1904. Known to millions as Dr. Seuss, his more than sixty illustrated books have helped educators and parents foster a love of books and reading for generations of children. His birthday is an annual day of recognition to raise awareness about the importance of encouraging and incorporating reading in our earliest readers.

“Establishing consistent reading opportunities both in the classroom and at home build not only vocabulary and comprehension but also help to fuel a further curiosity for learning,” noted AAE Executive Director Colin Sharkey. “Dr. Seuss’ enduring contributions to children’s literature and his lifelong devotion to improving literacy stand as a timeless inspiration to educators and readers of all ages.”

AAE staff and members will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America throughout the first week in March with school visits, storytime-themed parties, and costumed special activities. Additional resources are available here.
