Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC)
TEAC is a new nonprofit organization of institutions of higher
education and others devoted to the improvement of academic degree
programs for professional educators. The Council's primary work is the
accreditation of these professional programs through a system that
examines and verifies competent, caring, and qualified professional
educators.
After institutions have met certain eligibility standards, the Council
requires that they prepare a research monograph, the Inquiry Brief, in
which they demonstrate and document that their programs satisfy three
principles of quality:
Evidence of student learning and understanding of the
teaching field,
- Evidence that the assessment of student
learning is
valid
- Evidence of the program’s own
continuous improvement
and quality control.
Currently, the National
Council for
the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is the only federally
recognized accrediting body for programs in teachers education. TEAC
was formed to provide a viable altenative.
