Mr. David Fassler, a teacher at Greater Lawrence Regional Vocational Technical High School in Andover, Massachusetts, has been awarded a classroom grant by the Association of American Educators Foundation to supplement the cost of servicing the school's science equipment. We are happy to report that the newly serviced microscopes are already being utilized by nearly 700 students! The GLTS science department is in possession of 35 compound light microscopes, all require servicing and repair," said Mr. Fassler in his application. "This equipment is used extensively during the freshmen and sophomore years, covering ten state curriculum standards in preparation for the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) biology test. This grant will ensure all of our students have access to the necessary equipment." AAEF applauds the dedication that Mr. Fassler has demonstrated in securing funding for his school's science lab. His efforts will benefit his students and entire school for years to come. Great job! AAEF teacher scholarships and classroom grants are competitive awards available to all educators. Apply online or by mail to receive up to $500 for professional development or classroom materials. Be sure to mark your calendar for the fall deadline: October 1, 2012.

A big shout out to AAE for the opportunity to apply for this grant! The microscopes are light years better than they were prior to the work, and there is going to be lots of excitement in biology for the years ahead!
