AAE Calls for Real Reform in New Administration

The following statement can be attributed to Gary Beckner, executive director of the Association of American Educators:

As the country looks toward the beginning of a new presidential administration in January, the Association of American Educators calls on President-Elect Barack Obama to honor his word and truly pursue real education reform in 2009 and beyond. To do this, it is imperative that he name a person to head the Department of Education who is not afraid to challenge the status quo. We need someone leading the education movement in Washington who can see beyond the four walls of traditional public education, someone who is not afraid to reach across the aisle and find the solution that is best for our nation's children. The new Secretary of Education should be dedicated to the idea of reform, just as President-Elect Obama is. Mr. Obama made it clear during his campaign that he is dedicated to improving the quality of education in this country. We call on him now to make good on his promise and bring real education reform to Washington.
