Association of American Educators Celebrates National School Choice Week;
Releases Member Survey Results on School Choice

Mission Viejo, CA – The Association of American Educators (AAE), a national non-union, professional educator association, announced today that its staff and members across the country will be participating in National School Choice Week. AAE will be hosting celebrations, lunches, presentations, and other activities throughout the week in public, charter, and private schools. AAE has participated in National School Choice Week every year since its inception.

“AAE signs onto National School Choice Week each year to recognize and extol the choices and contributions of all of our member educators,” said AAE Executive Director Colin Sharkey. “National School Choice Week is a phenomenal opportunity for every educator to celebrate their school—public district, public charter, magnet, private, parochial, online—and the dedicated staff working there to provide our students with an excellent education.”

Support for school choice policies among AAE members tracks higher than the general population, even though the majority of members teach in traditional district schools. AAE’s most recent membership survey revealed that more than seventy percent of survey respondents support public charter schools and blended-learning environments. More than eighty percent of survey respondents voiced support for tax credits and education savings accounts. Seventy-eight percent support open district enrollment and ninety-five percent support course choice.

“Support for school choice policies among our members is high, though not unlimited or unqualified,” said AAE Foundation Director of Advocacy McKenzie Allen. “AAE educators are generally open to policies and reform that empower teachers, students, and parents to make their own choices.”

The Association of American Educators (AAE) is the largest national, non-union, professional educator organization, advancing the profession by offering a modern approach to educator empowerment and advocacy—promoting professionalism, collaboration and excellence without a partisan agenda. AAE is committed to a teaching profession that is student-oriented, well respected, and personally fulfilling. AAE serves members in all fifty states and welcomes professionals from all education entities. Membership is $16.50 per month which includes $2 million professional liability insurance, employment rights coverage, professional resources and many other benefits.
