When it Comes to Professional Development for Teachers, Conducting Research is Key

It's no surprise that the Better Business Bureau (BBB) recently issued a call for consumers to do their research before making holiday purchases. Said Kathy Graham, BBB President and CEO, "By checking prices at several retailers and reading advertisements carefully, consumers can make an educated decision on whether it's worthwhile to stand in line or miss a good night's sleep." Professional development for teachers is no exception. Conducting research on teacher training opportunities allows teachers to make educated decisions on whether it's worthwhile to miss a few days in the classroom or to dedicate four days of summer break to an institute or workshop. Teacher Evaluation Plans in NCLB Waiver Proposals

With the overhaul of No Child Left Behind taking longer than expected, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and the Obama administration introduced an NCLB waiver plan back in September that would allow states to apply for regulatory relief in exchange for key reforms. The Congressional Supercommittee & the Education Impact

With the November 23 deadline looming and the failure of the congressional "supercommittee" to reach a meaningful debt-reduction agreement, automatic spending cuts are now expected for agencies across the federal government. 21st Principal’s Big List of Must-Have Administrator Tech Knowledge

I decided to request Dr. Robinson's permission to repost his piece on the AAE blog because we all probably know an administrator who wants to get going with technology but who doesn't know where to start. Of course, s/he better get going because some of the items below will probably be out-of-date in no more than a year—that includes Facebook going through three more major facelifts. And don't let any beloved administrator (or teacher for that matter) use that last sentence as an excuse not to start.
