Where Does Your State Fall in This Ranking?

This month, WalletHub released their much anticipated 2016 rankings of the best and worst school systems in America. Analyzing all 50 states and the District of Columbia in their review, WalletHub made their determination based on 17 key criteria. “School-System Quality” and “School-System Safety” were among the most important factors in considering these rankings.

According to their analysis, here's a highlight of the top 3 states in each category:

Lowest Dropout Rate
1. Iowa
2. Nebraska
3. New Jersey

Highest Math Scores
1. Massachusetts
2. Minnesota
3. New Hampshire

Highest Reading Test Scores
1. Massachusetts
2. New Hampshire
3. Vermont

Highest Average SAT Scores
1. Illinois
2. North Dakota
3. Michigan

Highest Average ACT Scores
1. Tied for first - Connecticut & Massachusetts
2. New Hampshire
3. Maine

Lowest Pupil-Teacher Ratio
1. Vermont
2. North Dakota
3. Maine

Safest Schools
1. Wisconsin
2. Massachusetts
3. Oklahoma

Lowest Bullying-Incidents Rates
1. D.C.
2. Florida
3. North Carolina

All of the educators in these states deserve kudos for their accomplishments and ability to have a positive effect on their students, but the fact that North Dakota, Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts showed up in these top 3 lists multiple times is particularly impressive.

With this in mind, perhaps it's time we start paying closer attention to what these states are doing differently in their classrooms to have such a profound impact on their students.

Do you think this is a good reflection of the quality of education in the U.S.?
