A+ Places
written by Karen - NC, July 16, 2016

As a home educator, grade 8 for one student cost me $2,000 in used textbooks alone. It can be hard to beg for 15 cents off, even with our HSLDA membership card, school ID card, school letterhead, most recent place, net scores, and DNPE verification letter.

Some of the stores I've had the best luck with are:
B&N - Very easy to sign up and use your ph number thereafter. Discounts apply to full price books and toys only
JoAnn's - Grandma taught us how to sew a pillow and is teaching us on her Baby Lock this year. She has no problem getting a discount with our school letterhead and school ID with photo
Michael's - as long as I have my school ID number, they scan their barcode for me. They have wonderful storage options and tons of stuff to make a mess...I mean project with.

Places that have snubbed me:
Office Depot - I've worked for them when I was in college and I have to say that their star teacher program really stinks now. Store managers are clueless and unsure of this program's existence, which only includes bonus points and a special day. Too bad nobody is sure when that one day is.
Party City - I've written their corporate office twice and have never gotten a response. Basically, you need a tax ID and a nice outfit to save 15 cents on the dollar with them.

I love to get cards from administration and from parents or students telling me that they appreciate me or that I have been doing a good job.
